Our newest period-absorbing underwear features our signature, innovative built-in absorbent technology within the gusset of the underwear — a moisture-wicking top layer, an ultra-absorbent core layer, and an outermost LeakSafe™ barrier that leaves teens feeling fresh and dry.
The positioning of the absorbent gusset varies slightly by style but is positioned mainly towards the back. Thinx Teens Sleep Shorts feature an extended gusset throughout the front and back for additional coverage to catch your flow.
Our period-absorbing underwear handles blood clots similarly to a pad. Although the undies can't absorb the blood clot, they'll absorb the surrounding moisture to help teens feel fresh and dry.
No! Our undies are lightweight and moisture-wicking — so they'll help protect against leaks while still feeling like regular underwear. Our new 4-layer gusset absorbs your flow and helps lock in leaks, while the moisture-wicking fabric helps them stay fresh and dry.
If your teen's underwear starts to feel bulky or wet, or if they notice their flow spreading to the seams, these are signs that it's time for a fresh pair!

Wash your teens' period underwear before they wear them. Machine wash with like colors on cold, line dry, and repeat. Do not iron, bleach, or dry clean. Replace Thinx Teens at 30 washes. Visit our How to Wash page for more details.
Machine wash your underwear on cold to keep them in tip-top shape. The standard cold wash is 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit (15C - 27C). If you're hand-washing, the water should feel close to room temperature.
Yep! Washing our leak-absorbing underwear with your other laundry is perfectly hygienic, and your other clothes will be fine. Washing machines will dilute the contents almost immediately, and your other clothes will not stain if you're washing on cold.
Drying times may be affected by humidity levels and the airflow of the space you hang them in. Under non-humid conditions, moderate absorbency styles typically dry within 10-12 hours and super absorbency styles typically dry within 19 hours.
Don't panic — a few cycles in the dryer probably won't hurt period-absorbing underwear. However, repeated exposure to the heat from dryers or irons will affect the underwear's elasticity, which helps prevent leaks, so don't make it a habit!
Pro tip: Use a mesh laundry bag to separate them from your other clothes for easy removal from the wash while the rest goes in the dryer.
Our absorbent underwear isn’t stain-resistant. However, the gusset lining is black to help prevent stains from showing.
Follow our simple care instructions to maintain your period underwear's performance. Replace them at 30 washes.
Dispose of period-absorbing underwear at 30 washes.

We craft our underwear carefully and consciously, from sustainable manufacturing processes to ethical working conditions. We’re proud to work with MAS, a global leader in ethical manufacturing based in Sri Lanka. MAS operates under three pillars: products changed for good, our planet changed for good, and lives changed for good. Visit our Manufacturing page to learn more about how we make our underwear and the incredible people who make them!
Body literacy is understanding the body and its functions, so that we can be more empowered when it comes to our health and wellness. At Thinx, we believe in challenging societal stigmas and giving more people access to body education. That’s why we created GetBodyWise.
Menstrual equity refers to equal and comprehensive access to menstrual hygiene products and the right to reproductive health education. Thinx actively supports menstrual equity by offering educational content and partnering with like-minded organizations to bring leak protection products to communities that need them most. Through our GetBodyWise program, we're working to fight societal stigmas and help empower more people with body literacy.
